IRC Islas Canarias - HLTS International Sound

Jan Kopecky has secured his first victory of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge season following a tense finish to Rally Islas Canarias today (Saturday). Kopecky moved in front when Kris Meeke suffered a puncture on Friday's penultimate stage, but then had to stave off pressure from Skoda Motorsport team-mate Juho Hanninen, who closed to within 9.1 seconds of the Czech driver at the finish in Las Palmas.

Juho Hanninen and Skoda have made it three different winners from three rounds of this year's Intercontinental Rally Challenge following a dominant victory on Rally Argentina, which finished with a spectacular superspecial stage through the streets of host town Carlos Paz earlier today (Sunday). 

The Finn, who drives for the factory Skoda Motorsport team, builds his overall title lead to five points after claiming his first win of the season. Proof of the 28-year-old's impressive performance on the challenging gravel event was underlined by the fact he won 11 of the 15 special stages, despite having to run first on the road on the final day of the rally. 

Hanninen's win also marked Skoda's maiden victory of the 2010 IRC and has given the Czech firm a 22-point lead in the IRC manufacturers' standings after three rounds. 

IRC Curitiba HLTS - International Sound

Kris Meeke celebrated his second successive victory on Rally Internacional de Curitiba with by taking to the city’s race circuit in his Peugeot 207 Super 2000.

The Intercontinental Rally Challenge counter was based at the track, which will host the opening two rounds of the World Touring Car Championship. The races were televised live on Eurosport.

After completing his lap of the circuit and performing a series of donuts for the crowd, Meeke credited his win to Peugeot UK, which is supporting his IRC title campaign with Kronos Racing..

WTCC Curitiba races HLTS

History repeated in Brazil with Yvan Muller and Gabriele Tarquini taking a victory apiece for the second year in succession in Curitiba and leaving Brazil as joint leaders of the Drivers Championship, the only difference being the teams they are competing for.

The Chevrolet team commanded Race 1 in Curitiba with all three of their drivers filling the podium. The good points haul means the USA brand comes away from Curitiba leading the Manufacturers’ Championship with 70 points.

WTCC 2010 Curitiba

The start of the 2010 FIA World Touring Car Championship is just one week away.

The series' sixth season will get underway once again at the Autodromo Internacional de Curitiba, Brazil.

This will be the fifth time the 3.7 km circuit has hosted the WTCC. The championship visited Curitiba for the first time in July 2006; a crowd of 34,000 attended the races that were won by Jordi Gene (SEAT Leon) and Andy Priaulx (BMW 320si).

From 2007 the Brazilian event was moved to March and given the honour of opening the season. BMW Team Germany fellow drivers Jorg Muller and local boy Augusto Farfus shared victories and the attendance was even larger, with 45,000  spectators. In 2008 SEAT won both races with Yvan Muller and Gabriele Tarquini.

Last year SEAT's Muller and Tarquini managed to replicate the previous year's good results.
